I like to refer to myself as a semi-environmentalist. I love nature, and passionately hate seeing it get destroyed for another shopping mall or parking lot, yet as a capitalist I believe we as humans have the undeniable right to be able to consume as much as we want. There needs to be a balance between the two, as consumption of goods that can be fully recycled or turned into energy isn’t a bad thing. The thing is, that’s not happening. I try to talk as many people I know into conserving and helping the environment by helping recycle and buy cleaner cars and other positive means of saving energy. For a few years now I’ve been a daily reader of the environmentalist blogs treehugger.com and inhabitant.com, and since then I’ve become really interested in this whole global warming fiasco. While there is evidence to support that Earth’s temperature is on a slight rise, it’s not something that poses a serious threat to us. The latest report I read from NASA states that over the past 100 years, temperature has only risen 0.8° C or 1.44° F. Estimates for the next hundred years put it at an average global increase of anywhere from 1° C to 3°C. What people should be focusing on instead of global warming is trying to make the planet a cleaner place. I’m here to help.
